This project started in 2011 and is one of our long-term projects.

Food banks do not distribute directly to people but rely on effective civic organizations. ADRA Bulgaria as a humanitarian organization and as a foundation implementing many humanitarian projects in Bulgaria possesses the needed experience and capacity to act as a main distributor at the First Bulgarian Food Bank, being one of the first selected  organizations for the purpose of distribution.

ADRA Bulgaria has distributed large quantities of food products through its volunteers in the regions of Sofia, Kyustendil, Pernik, Godetch, Samokov, Radomir, Montana, etc. among the socially weak families, orphanages, nursing and elderly homes, and people in disadvantage.

In 2012 ADRA Bulgaria opened its distribution point in Sofia from where people with disabilities, socially weak and elderly people, when presenting the needed documents, are provided with food products on an ad hoc basis depending on the frequency of products donated. An official contract agreement was signed between the Bulgarian Food Bank and ADRA Bulgaria to work in partnership for the delivery of donated food to the needy.

ADRA Bulgaria contributes to the work of the BFB by providing part of its technical capacity – a cooling van for the needs of distribution, after signing a contract agreement for sharing the cooling van.

It is important to note that for the first two quarters of 2013, through ADRA Bulgaria more than 15 tons of food products donated by BFB were distributed to the needy and socially excluded people from the Bulgarian Society.

The project financing is mainly through private donors.
