How it all started

ADRA Bulgaria started as result of the consorted efforts of a local group volunteers from the national Seventh-day Adventist Church to contribute to the global initiative of ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) International to serve and care for those in need, to invest in the potential of individuals through advocacy, training and supported education, supporting families, promoting health, establishing livelihoods and responding to emergencies.

ADRA Bulgaria Foundation is established in 1992 in Sofia as an independent humanitarian and not-for-profit organization, a Bulgarian legal person that accepts the values and goals of ADRA International – established as SAWS in 1956, providing relief on global scale and when in 1984 SAWS became the ADRA, focused additionally to provision of humanitarian aid also to development work.

Our Mission

ADRA’s mission is to seek to identify and address social injustice and deprivation in developing countries such is Bulgaria. ADRA Bulgaria’s work seeks to improve the quality of life of those in need. ADRA invests in the potential of these individuals through community development initiatives targeting Food Security, Economic Development, Primary Health and Basic Education.

ADRA is a professional, learning and efficient network that embodies integrity and transparency. ADRA reaches across boundaries empowering and speaking out for the at-risk and forgotten to achieve measurable,documented and durable changes in lives and society.

ADRA Bulgaria has followed the development pattern of ADRA International and, after its first years of mostly provision of humanitarian aid and relief as emergency response, it shifted to provision of better educational opportunities to marginalized groups, social activities and community work.
