The project “Give Roma Health” is implemented with the financial support provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway under the EEA Financial Mechanism. The main goal of the project is to contribute to the reduction of economic and social disparities in the European Economic Area by empowering Roma health mediators in Pazardzhik district to conduct early screening of the Roma population for the prevention of socially significant diseases and allowing over 1000 people free access to these check-ups.

ADRA Bulgaria conducted free medical examinations in 5 municipalities in Pazardzhik district – Septemvri, Rakitovo, Velingrad, Bratsigovo, Pazardzhik. 2500 people were reached during the 15 examination days. The examinations included free-of-charge medical consultation as well as bone-thickness measurement, blood sugar, pulsoxymetrie, blood pressure, spirometry, ECG, etc. Based on the results ADRA Bulgaria concludes that there is a significantly low health culture and habits amongst the Roma population in Bulgaria. People neglect their symptoms, rarely consult with doctors and ignore their symptoms until the advanced stages of the disease. Thanks to our doctors and medical staff we managed to raise the health awareness of those people. We will continue to monitor the health of the Bulgarian citizens that are in need of medical help.
